Wolves fall to Trojan rallies | Fastpitch

Meridian came back twice to top the host Coupeville High School fastpitch team 14-8 Wednesday, March 14.

The Wolves (1-1) built leads of 4-0 and 6-3 before the Trojans (1-0) hit around and plated six runs in the fifth inning.

Coupeville scored four runs in the second, then Meridian answered with four in the third.

In the bottom half of the third, Hailey Hammer walked, Bree Messner singled and Haley Sherman doubled in two runs to give CHS a 6-4 edge.

The Trojans scored one in the fourth to trim the gap to one, then exploded for their six-run fifth behind three hits, two walks and an error to take control.

McKayla Bailey and Ali Trumbull handled the pitching chores and were stung by 11 walks.

Taya Boonstra collected two hits and three RBI for the Wolves, Hammer added a triple and Trumbull had another hit.

Defensively, the Wolves committed only two errors, turned two double plays and received a diving catch by Messner.

Coupeville begins Cascade Conference play at 4 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Cedarcrest.
