The "second season" begins for the Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. when the Wildcats travel to Shorewood for the first round of the district tournament.

The eight-team, double-elimination tournament features the top six 3A teams from the Western Conference and the top two 3A teams from the Northwest Conference. Two teams will qualify for the regional tournament.

The higher seed will host the games during the first three rounds of the district tournament.

Seventh-seed Oak Harbor (7-13), the fifth-place Wesco school, heads to second-seed Shorewood (16-4) in hopes that the third time will be the charm. The Thunderbirds defeated Oak Harbor twice this year, 61-44 and 67-50, and are coming off an upset win over previously unbeaten Mountlake Terrace.

The winner and loser of the Oak Harbor-Shorewood game will face the winner and loser of the Glacier Peak (sixth seed, 14-6) and Mount Vernon (third seed, 10-10) game Friday at 7 p.m.

In the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Mountlake Terrace (19-1) hosts eighth-seeded Everett (6-14) and fourth-seeded Shorecrest (14-6) hosts fifth-seeded Ferndale (15-6).
