After a year of growing pains, the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team will field a more experienced team this winter.
Five players who saw extensive action last season will be the building blocks of this year’s squad.
Back is a pair of seniors, post Dominique Jackson and wing Tatiana Cumming. Also returning are junior posts Ciera Wiser and Jalani Bobo and sophomore wing Annie Leete.
Coach Trisha Clayville said key newcomers include senior guard Erika Flores, junior guard Morgan Young and junior wing Marissa Lewis.
Clayville said, “We gained much needed experience last year at many positions, but unfortunately we are still a bit on the small side. Our greatest strength this year is our work ethic and desire to improve. The girls work hard every night to get better, and that desire will pay off as the season moves forward.”
The teams to beat on the way to the Western Conference title, according to Clayville, are Glacier Peak and Meadowdale.
Oak Harbor opens the season with three home games, beginning with Arlington Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7:15 p.m.Contact Whidbey News Times Sports editor Jim Waller at firstname.lastname@example.org or 360-675-6611 ext. 5060.
