Qualifying eight athletes for the state meet, the Oak Harbor High School swim and dive team finished third in the District 1 championships at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Nov. 4 and 5.

Senior Ciara Hu won two events at district and will lead the Wildcats at the state championships Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 10 to 12, at the Weyerhaeuser King Country Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

She will be joined at state by seniors Karina Concepcion and Angela Johnson, junior Therese Desquitado, sophomores Irysh Concepcion and Olivia Meyer, and freshmen Mollie Briddell and Nicole Vogt.

Hu won the 200 individual medley (2:13.87) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.07), both by nearly four seconds.

This will be her fourth trip to state. Last fall she placed sixth in the IM and seventh in the 100 fly.

Hu also swam on two state-qualifying relay teams. She teamed with Karina Concepcion, Desquitado and Johnson to finish third in the 200-free relay (1:46.48); and with Karina Concepcion, Johnson and Meyer to grab fourth in the 200 medley relay (2:00.62).

Karina Concepcion was the only other Wildcat to qualify in an individual event as she placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.25) and earned a state-qualifying time in the 50 free earlier this fall. At district she was fifth in the 50 (26.11).

The 400 free relay squad of Irysh Concepcion, Briddell, Vogt and Desquitado earned a state berth by finishing third (4:08.63).

As a team, Oak Harbor finished third in the 12-team meet with 202 points. Shorewood won with 294, followed by Glacier Peak with 265.
