Oak Harbor snaps losing streak | Tennis

After breaking a seven-match losing streak with a 4-3 win over visiting Marysville Getchell Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Oak Harbor High School tennis team lost 5-2 at Mountlake Terrace Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The Wildcats hadn't won since defeating winless Marysville Getchell in the season opener Sept. 6.

Oak Harbor received wins from Carlos Neto Gioia (7-5, 6-2) in first singles, Will Southard (6-0, 6-0) in third singles, David Kusnick/Harrison Miller (7-6[5], 6-3) in first doubles and Ben Harrison/Cameron Bester (6-3, 6-4) in second doubles.

Carter Saar (4-6, 2-6) and Eric Berner (4-6, 6-3, 2-2) fell in singles play, and Sean Kelley/Tom Dale (4-6, 6-7[3]) in doubles.

The Wildcats (2-8) got wins from Neto Gioia (6-4, 7-5) and Southard (6-2, 6-2) in the loss to Mountlake Terrace (3-6).

Other results:

Singles: 2, Saar lost 2-6, 0-6; 4, Berner lost 6-7(4), 5-7.

Doubles: 1, Harrison/Bester lost 6-7(5), 4-6; 2, Miller/Kelley lost 4-6, 3-6; Jacob Nelson/Dale lost 4-6, 2-6.
