Wildcats win league opener | Volleyball

Oak Harbor started the Wesco 3A volleyball season with a 3-0 win over visiting Marysville Getchell Tuesday, Sept. 20.
The win evened the Wildcats' season record at 2-2; Oak Harbor continues league play at Glacier Peak (1-0, 2-3) Thursday, Sept. 22, and at home with Everett (0-1, 3-1) Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m.
In the win over the Chargers, Oak Harbor swept the sets 25-10, 25-17, 25-13.
In game one, the Wildcats broke a 6-6 tie with a four-point run that included kills by Kelsey Rankin, Lizzy Chase and Roshel Muzzall.
Up 15-10 and with Amanda Pavey serving, Oak Harbor finished out the game on a 10-0 run behind a pair of kills by Kayleigh Harper and another from Hannah Salmons.
Oak Harbor fell behind 4-0 in the second set, but a string of Getchell errors helped the 'Cats tie it up a 6.
From there Oak Harbor steadily pulled away with kills from Taylor Nienhuis, Muzzall, Ally McGuire and Harper.
An ace from Christina Alexander and a stuff block by Harper and McGuire helped push Oak Harbor to a 7-1 lead in game three. Muzzall fired four more kills as the Wildcats cruised to the win.
Nienhuis' 15 assists helped Harper ended with nine kills and Muzzall seven. Muzzall also had three aces and Harper one. Alexander added 12 digs.
Coach Kerri Molitor said, "I'm really happy with our first league win."
