A rugged first half spelled doom for the Oak Harbor soccer team as it dropped a 7-0 match to visiting Meadowdale Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The Mavericks (3-2) knocked in five goals while dominating the first half.

Coach Jeff Laiblin said, "We didn't play our best (in the first half). We didn't play smart and we didn't mark them up.

"Certain teams we have to be perfect against; if we aren't, we will lose."

Laiblin added that his club had trouble with Meadowdale's physical play: "Three goals were the direct example of them manhandling our defenders."

The Wildcats were competitive in the second half and held their own in time of possession but couldn't create scoring opportunities.

Oak Harbor (0-3-1) goes to Mountlake Terrace (0-4-1) Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. then entertains Marysville Getchell (0-2-2) Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m.
