The short-handed Oak Harbor High School swim team opened the season with a pair of losses in a double-dual meet Monday, Sept. 12, at John Vanderzicht Pool.

The Wildcats fell to Glacier Peak 96-90 and Snohomish 105-78. Snohomish topped Glacier Peak 96-89.

Eight of Oak Harbor's 24 swimmers were missing, including some key athletes because of injuries or not enough practices, according to coach Amy Merkley.

Merkley said "without a doubt" her team would have won if it was at full strength.

She added, "The ones I had did a good job; overall I am pleased."

Ciara Hu picked up Oak Harbor's only individual win, taking the 100-meter butterfly in 1:09.41.

She also joined Karina Concepcion, Therese Desquitado and Irysh Concepcion to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:03.51).
