The fifth annual Megan McClung 5K Run/Walk takes place Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.

The race is open to all runners, not just military personnel, and costs $35. Participants receive a technical running shirt and commemorative poker chip. Prizes include the use of a Porsche for a weekend and two free entries into the Marine Corps Marathon.

Proceeds go to the Semper Fi Fund.

Register online at www.meganmcclungmemorialrun.com or www.active.com.

Direct donations to the Megan McClung Memorial Run Fund can be made at Banner Bank (account 4006009525).

Major McClung died in 2006 and was the first female officer killed in Iraq. She enjoyed running and set up the first marathon held in Iraq.
