Sedro-Woolley scored nine first-inning runs and cruised to a 17-4, four-inning win over North Whidbey for the District 11 10/11-year-old baseball championship at Windjammer Park Friday, July 8.
Sedro-Woolley earned a trip to the state tournament with the victory.
North Whidbey struck first when Dominic Stevens doubled and scored on Ewan Preedit’s single in the top of the first inning. That lead quickly evaporated as Sedro-Woolley piled up its nine first-inning runs.
The winners combined six walks and four hits to produce the big lead. In a statistical oddity, NWLL first baseman Jacob McMurdo recorded three unassisted outs in the inning.
Sedro-Woolley scored eight runs in the third to further cement its win. Six walks, one hit and a three-run error did the damage.
North Whidbey picked up a run in the third. Andrew Eaton walked, moved to third on Preedit’s single and scored on an error off the bat of Jakob Daily.
In the fourth, McMurdo and Eaton walked and scored on Preedit’s hit and an error.
