Babe Ruth team thumps Skagit Valley

Powered by the bats of Brandon Bailey and Daniel Wolfe, the Oak Harbor Babe Ruth team drubbed the Skagit Valley Renegades 13-3 in five innings Tuesday, June 14, at Clover Valley Park.
Bailey slugged three this, including a home run, and drove in four runs, while Wolfe stroked two home runs for five RBI.
Oak Harbor played errorless defense to back the strong pitching of Brent Mertins and Wolfe.
Down 1-0 in the first, Oak Harbor quickly took control with a four-run rally. Clay Doughty and Mertins opened the inning with walks, Bailey singled in one run, then Wolfe homered for three more.
In the third, Bailey singled and Wolfe struck again with a two-run shot.
Christian Bertram opened the fourth with a single and Jozef Mendoza walked. Mertins singled in one run and Bailey followed with a three-run shot.
Oak Harbor ended the scoring with three in the fifth. Kellan Mebane singled, Mendoza walked and Doughty singled in two runs. Doughty moved to third on walks to Bailey and Wolfe and scored on a passed ball.
Preston Rankin added two hits to Oak Harbor's 14-hit attack.
Coach Bill Young said, "We stayed more focused and made several very good plays to maintain control throughout the well played game."
