Hoffmire wins 2 gold medals

Alli Hoffmire of the North Whidbey Aquatic Club and the Fidalgo Flippers of Anacortes won two gold medals in the 2011 Special Olympics Washington State Games at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way June 4 and 5.

She won the gold in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a time of 29:06.90 in a come-from-behind victory and the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 3:53.45, leading the entire race.

In both events, Hoffmire posted the fasted time in the state for both male and female swimmers.

Stacy Jappaert of NWAC and the Oak Harbor Special Olympics team won bronze in the 16- to 21-year-old 50-meter free (40.30).

Hoffmire is coached by NWAC's Amanda Streubel and Anacortes' Pinky Walker.
