Oak Harbor's Cady O'Dell qualified for the Northwest District 3A tennis tournament by placing fifth in singles in the Wesco 3A championship meet Thursday, May 12, at Jackson High School.

The district tournament takes place at Glacier Peak High School Tuesday and Wednesday, May 17 and 18. The top two finishers in singles and doubles qualify for the state tournament.

The Oak Harbor doubles team of Belen Cifuentes and Jordan Faralan just missed a district berth by finishing seventh in the Wesco tournament.

O'Dell won twice in the first day of the Wesco tournament to reach the semifinals where she lost to eventual champion and No. 1 seed Mackenzie Bang of Shorewood 6-0, 6-3. She then fell to Glacier Peak's Nadean Al-Ali 3-6, 7-5, 1-6 to finish fifth.

After splitting two matches in day one, Cifuentes and Faralan were tripped up by Keegan Monson and Jenie Sui of Shorecrest 4-6, 3-6. The Wildcats bounced back to defeat Mountlake Terrace's Gillian Braden-Armstrong and Stefanie Roeslie 6-1, 6-2 to earn seventh.
