Oak Harbor’s Cady O’Dell won two singles matches at the Wesco 3A tennis tournament at Jackson High School Tuesday, May 10, to advance to the semifinals.
The Wildcat doubles team of Belen Cifuentes and Jordan Faralan is also still alive after splitting two matches Tuesday.
The tournament continues through Thursday, May 12, and the top six singles players and top six doubles teams advance to next week’s district tournament at Mount Vernon High School Tuesday and Wednesday, May 17 and 18.
The first round matches in the Wesco meet were loser-out; winners moved on to the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
O’Dell, the No. 5 seed, upended unseeded Thea Henderson of Shorecrest 6-4, 6-2 in round one, then upset No. 4 seed Rosie Ellison of Everett 6-4, 6-0.
Cifuentes and Faralan, the No. 7 seed, topped unseeded Rozelle Zoleta and Dalica Tuy of Lynnwood 6-3, 6-0, then lost to No. 2 seed Monica Gillie and Sarah Desautels of Glacier Peak 4-6, 2-6.
In other first-round, loser-out action, Oak Harbor’s unseeded Alexa Holmly lost to No. 3 seed Meera Limaye of Shorecrest 0-6, 1-6; and the unseeded Wildcat team of Shannon Neilon and Jennifer Bowers fell to No. 5 seed Erica Beaulieu and Kari Beaulieu of Meadowdale 1-6, 4-6.
