Breaking out of a scoring slump, the Coupeville High School soccer team crunched Granite Falls 8-3 at Mickey Clark Field Monday, April 25.
Ben Hayes and Grayson Knott each recorded hat tricks and scored all their goals in the first half as the Wolves poured it on early.
The eight goals is a season high for Coupeville, doubling the previous best of four it scored against both Granite Falls and Friday Harbor earlier this spring.
Knott started the avalanche with a goal in the third minute off an assist from Hayes. Hayes followed with a free-kick goal in the 10th minute. Brandon Wilsey assisted on a Hayes' goal in the 18th minute.
Knott, with an assist from Nathan Lamb, scored in the 20th minute, then struck again two minutes later with his third goal off a Nevin Miranda assist.
Hayes completed his hat trick in the 31st minute.
Coach Paul Mendes said, "Our midfield and offense combined very well to beat their offside trap, which gave us some problems the last time we played them. This performance will help build some momentum and confidence as we enter our last week of the regular season."
The Wolves (5-8-1, 4-8) travel to Sultan (5-6) Wednesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. and finish the regular season at home with Lakewood (5-8, 4-7) Friday, April 29, at 6 p.m.
