Tennis: Strong singles play lifts 'Cats to win

Sweeping all four singles matches, visiting Oak Harbor popped the Glacier Peak tennis team 5-2 Tuesday, April 12.

After winning a close first set 7-5, Cady O’Dell cruised to a 6-1 second-set win to capture the No. 1 singles match.

The Wildcats won easily over the Grizzlies (2-5, 2-3) in the other singles contests. In No. 2, Belen Cifuentes won 6-0, 6-3; Clarissa Abadesco took third singles 6-1, 6-0; and Alexa Holmly was a 6-2, 6-1 winner in fourth singles.

Oak Harbor’s other victory came in third doubles from Jennifer Fremd and Cassandra Gianino 6-3, 6-2.

Jordan Faralan and Shannon Neilon lost in No. 1 doubles 2-6, 4-6; and Shoko Yamaguchi and Jennifer Bowers fell in No. 2 doubles 3-6, 2-6.

Winless Mountlake Terrace (0-8, 0-6) visits Oak Harbor (4-4, 3-3) Thursday, April 14, at 3:30 p.m.
