Fastpitch: Hawks score big late, defeat Wildcats
Mountlake Terrace scored seven runs in the final two innings to unknot a 2-2 game and defeat Oak Harbor 9-2 at Hillcrest Elementary School Tuesday, April 12.
Wildcat coach Jess Weikle said, “We played good ball through five innings, but weren't mentally tough enough when we got into trouble. We must learn to overcome our errors, pick ourselves up and take advantage of our scoring opportunities.”
It was a rough game all-around for Oak Harbor as the Wildcats committed 10 errors, left 10 runners on base and struck out nine times.
Oak Harbor scored both its runs in the bottom of the first with the help of a Shawna Steele home run; the Hawks tied it up with single runs in the second and fourth.
Emily Saar started in the circle for Oak Harbor, pitched the first six innings and yielded five unearned runs. Amanda Pavey pitched the seventh and was touched for four runs, only two earned.
Steele also had a single, walk, run and two RBI. Saar was 2-for-4 with a double, walk and run.
The Wildcats (1-7, 1-5) journey to first-place Meadowdale (8-0, 5-0) Thursday, April 14, at 3:30 p.m. and then host Lake Stevens (2-4, 1-4) in a nonleague game Monday, April 18, at 4.
