Oak Harbor’s Emily Saar and Amanda Pavey combined to throw a three-hitter, but the Wildcat fastpitch team still lost 5-2 at Shorecrest Friday, April 8.
Five errors allowed the Scots to score three unearned runs, and the Wildcat offense collected only two hits as Oak Harbor lost a game between one-win teams.
A home run gave Shorecrest two earned runs in the first inning, then the ‘Cat defense broke down and allowed two unearned runs in the third and another in the sixth. The Scots (2-7, 2-4) had just one hit after the first inning.
Oak Harbor scored both its runs in the fifth. Shawna Steele led off with a double and moved to third when the leftfielder failed to field the ball cleanly. She, however, was cut down at the plate on Abby Rankin’s roller to short.
Walks to Emily Hunt and Bailey Martinez loaded the bases. One run scored when Samm Zimmerman grounded into a fielder’s choice at second, and the second came off an error on Nichelle Trumbull’s bunt.
Pavey singled for Oak Harbor’s only other hit in the game.
Coach Jess Weikle said, “Same old problem, defense. It was very disappointing.”
Mountlake Terrace (4-2, 2-1) comes to Oak Harbor (1-6, 1-4) Tuesday, April 12, at 4 p.m.
