Cedarcrest scored in every inning on its way to defeating the host Coupeville High School fastpitch team 16-5 Wednesday, March 23, in the Cascade Conference opener.

Both teams had seven hits, but the Red Wolves took advantage of seven Coupeville errors to take the win.

Coupeville's offense, which was held hitless the first three innings, woke up with a three-run fourth.

Singles by Haley Sherman, Sydney Aparicio, Chevy Reyes and Alexis Trumbull spurred the rally.

The Wolves added two more runs in the fifth. Roxy Piechowski led with a double and scored on singles by Sherman and Leanna Franklin.

Coupeville (0-2, 0-1) started six freshmen and only one senior.

Coach Jackie Calkins was pleased with her team's effort: "They showed a lot of hustle...They have a great attitude."

The Wolves go to Lakewood (2-1) Friday, March 25, at 4 p.m. and then host Archbishop Murphy (2-1) Monday, March 28, at 4.
