Trio leads NWAC in dual meet
Three North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers earned high point honors in a dual meet with the Thunderbird Aquatic Club of Anacortes March 19.
Ashleigh Merrill, mixed 8u division; Molly Vagt, mixed 11-12 division; and Josh Jepsen, mixed open division, collected high point awards.
Merrill and Vagt each won four events, one more than Jepsen.
Seven-year-old Merrill’s biggest margin of victory came in 25 breaststroke, where she touched three seconds in front of the second-place swimmer and carved almost six seconds off her previous best with a 25.76.
She also received Swimmer of the Meet honors.
Vagt was most dominant in the 50 back, where she won by almost two seconds in 39.37. Jepsen staged upset victories in both the 50 fly (28.97) and 50 free (26.59), winning the latter event by almost a full second.
The Aquajets also received wins from Frances Empinado, Jacob Jepsen, Joey Jepsen and Jacob Thompson.
Swimmers who recorded 100 percent personal bests were Ridgely Briddell, Joshua Byers, Jerrin Concepcion, Angele Dennen, Frances Empinado, Mariel Empinado, Samantha Hines, Brighton Jensen, Sterling Jensen, Josh Jepsen, Angela Johnson, Kenzie Judd, Jeron Kosbar, Maya Krantz, Julia Krishtal, Merrill, John Middleton, Mary Middleton, Michelle Robinson, Ella Schroeder, Maira Sulin, Harrison Tack, Caleb Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Alex Toney, Jules Toney, Brett Vagt, Andrew Vogt, Ashley Vogt, Brannigan Vogt, Nichole Vogt, Reilly Walton, Kayla Wiley and Lawrence Zapanta.
Fifteen Aquajets competed in their first meet: Joshua Allison, Wyatt Azevedo, Carlos Bishai, Lynn Conto, Nicholas Davis, Sarah Head, Jared Johnston, Emma Kirk, Chloe LaRue, Mackenzi LaRue, Aneiva Mansikka, Destin Mansikka, Dominic Martin, Cavin Schmid and Noah Schroeder.
