The Coupeville fastpitch team couldn't overcome a rough first inning in a 12-2 five-inning nonleague loss at Meridian Monday, March 21.

The Wolves committed four of its six errors in the first inning to help the Trojans score six runs.

Meridian pitcher Juliana Magliano struck out 11 and kept the Wolves from mounting a comeback.

Coupeville received hits from Rebecca Armstrong, Alexis Trumbull, Roxy Piechowski and Autumn Stevenson.

Coupeville coach Jackie Calkins said Meridian (1-1) was "consistent with their bats and we weren't."

The loss was the season opener for the Wolves and their first-year coach; Calkins said, "Everything improved after the beginning-game jitters."

Coupeville hosts Cedarcrest Wednesday, March 23, at 4 p.m.
