Tennis: Oak Harbor hammers Hawks

A 5-2 win over host Mountlake Terrace Wednesday, March 16, helped the Oak Harbor High School girls tennis team get off to a good start in Wesco 3A play.
A sweep of the single matches powered the Wildcats to the win in the league opener.
After dropping the first set 1-6, Cady O'Dell rallied to win the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-0.
In No. 2 through 4 singles, Belen Cifuentes (6-3, 6-4), Clarissa Abadesco (6-1, 6-1) and Shannon Neilon (7-6(3), 6-1) won in straight sets.
Oak Harbor also grabbed the No. 3 doubles contest as Jennifer Fremd and Molly Van Dam came back to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Jennifer Bowers and Shoko Yamaguchi were edged in No. 1 doubles 1-6, 6-4, 6-7(3); as were Alexa Holmly and Cassandra Gianino in No. 2 doubles 1-6, 6-4, 4-6.
Oak Harbor (1-0, 1-1) goes to Everett Friday, March 18, for a 3:30 p.m. match at Clark Park.
