Tennis: Stanwood blanks Wildcats in opener

Stanwood breezed by the Oak Harbor High School girls tennis team 7-0 Monday, March 14, on the windy Wildcat courts.

The Spartans didn't lose a set on the way to their season-opening win.

In singles play, Oak Harbor's Belen Cifuentes lost 6-0, 6-0; Clarissa Abadesco 6-2, 6-2; Shannon Neilon 6-0, 6-0; and Alexa Holmly 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles, Jennifer Bowers and Shoko Yamaguchi fell 7-5, 6-1; Cassandra Gianino and Jennifer Fremd 7-6(5), 6-3; and  Molly Van Dam and Kelli Travenetti 6-1, 6-0.

The Wildcats travel twice this week before returning home Monday, March 21, to take on Lynnwood at 3:30 p.m.
