NWAC runs away with March Madness meet

North Whidbey Aquatic Club grabbed first at the nine-team Silverdale March Madness swim meet March 5 and 6 at the Olympic Swim Center.

The Aquajets recorded 938 points, easily outdistancing the runner up, host Olympic Aquatic Club of Bremerton (596.5)

Swimming in the boys 11-12 division, Kenny Morrow earned four new Age Group cuts in the 100 back (1:10.19), 50 breast (36.17), 50 back (32.28) and 100 individual medley (1:11.82) and won three individual events to earn NWAC’s Swimmer of the Meet honors.

Taliah Black crushed a 15-year-old team record in the girls 10-and-under 50 breast (37.50) and notched a new AGS cut in the 100 free (1:07.06).

Lucas Tack bested a 14-year-old team record in the boys 8-and-under 25 fly (16.63).

Black, Morrow, Michael Johnson and Hannah Schroeder clocked 100 percent personal bests; and Black, Allison Hoffmire, Price Hu, Mary Middleton, Emily Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder, Lauren Vagt, Andrew Vogt, Brannigan Vogt and Kelsey Vogt earned 100 percent relay PRs.

Maya Krantz and Brannigan Vogt met Silver cuts, while Middleton, Jillian Pape, Michelle Robinson, Emily Schroeder, Harrison Tack, Lucas Tack, Lauren Vagt and Kelsey Vogt met Gold cuts.

Event winners included Black, Irysh Concepcion, Ciara Hu, Price Hu, Jacob Jepsen, Joey Jepsen, Johnson, Marissa Morris, Morrow, Ethan Tack, Harrison Tack, Lucas Tack, Akasha Trisler, Lauren Vagt and Molly Vagt.

Lucas Tack, Ethan Tack, Morris, Ciara Hu and Jacob Jepsen were high-point winners.

NWAC next competes March 10 through 13 at the Senior Sectional Championships in Federal Way, where it will field a team of six athletes.

 

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.

The first two weeks are free.
