Swim: Wildcats grab 2nd at distirct; send 4 individuals, 3 relays to state
Oak Harbor High School finished second in the 3A district swim and dive meet in Anacortes Saturday, Feb. 12, and four Wildcat individuals and three relay teams qualified for the state meet.
In the 2A district meet, Coupeville's Cole Weinstein qualified for the state meet and finished third in the 500-yard free style (5:06.58) and fourth in the 200 free (1:55.46). Teammate Konrad Borden did not place in the 100 breaststroke.
Coupeville, a 1A school, competed in the 2A district because that's the smallest classification the state offers in the post-season. The Wolves finished eighth with 23 points, the best among 1A schools.
In 3A, Oak Harbor placed second to Shorewood 346.5-293. The Thunderbirds, who won the 4A state title last winter, held off the Wildcats by outscoring Oak Harbor 41-14 in diving and winning two relays.
Oak Harbor coach Amy Nurvic said the 'Cats had "a great meet" with "many fast swims."
The top three in each event earned a trip to the state meet Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
