In the first seven weeks of the season, the Coupeville High School boys basketball team won only three of 14 games. In a span of four days last week, the Wolves doubled the win total.
Coupeville finished the week's trifecta last Friday, Jan. 28, by defeating visiting Granite Falls 50-44.
The Wolves (4-7, 6-11) journey to Sultan (4-7, 7-8) tonight, Jan. 31, and then host Lakewood (3-8, 6-11) Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. They wrap up the regular season at home Friday with Archbishop Murphy (9-2, 11-5).
Coupeville jumped on Granite Falls early, going up 15-7 in the first quarter, but the last-place Tigers (1-10, 1-16) made it interested by pushing with in two, 23-21, at half time and taking a lead, 35-34, going into the final frame.
The Wolves kept their poise and pulled out their third win of the week.
Hunter Hammer completed a strong week with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Ian Smith added 13 points, Ben Hayes eight, Tyler King four and Nevin Miranda three.Contact Whidbey News Times Sports editor Jim Waller at email@example.com or 360-675-6611 ext. 5060.
