Wrestling: 2 Wildcats place in Walley Invitational

Two Oak Harbor High School wrestlers placed at the Spud Walley Invitational in Sedro-Woolley Saturday, Dec. 11.

Brandon Stratton grabbed third at 152 pounds while Cody Fakkema finished sixth at 119.

Stratton started the tournament with a 13-2 win and a fall (1:14) before losing by a pin (5:33). He captured the match for third and fourth places with a quick fall (1:00).

Fakkema opened with an 8-1 win but was pinned (2:51) in the second round. He bounced back with another 8-1 win and a fall (2:20) before a loss by a pin (2:41) in the fifth-sixth place match.

Collin Higingbotham (171) just missed placing in the top six. After losing by a fall (4:26) in the first round, he recorded two pins (:45 and 2:20) before losing by a pin (:51).

Corey Trimbur (112) recorded the only other Oak Harbor win, taking a 6-0 decision in the first round.

The Wildcats start Wesco 3A action Thursday, Dec. 16, at Glacier Peak at 7 p.m.
