The Coupeville High School cheer team jumped back into competition this year.

After serving as just a sideline cheer squad the last few years, the Wolves decided to become a competitive team again this winter, according to coach Sylvia Arnold.

Arnold said the upperclassmen wanted to get back into competing and the whole group has worked hard to make the transition a success.

In the year’s first event, the Seahawk Cheer Challenge at Peninsula High School, Coupeville won the non-tumbling division. The victory also qualified the Wolves for the state finals at Everett’s Comcast Arena Jan. 22.

The winning group included Madeline Roberts, Kaitlyn Marcus, Kim Farage, Emily Clay, Jessica Ornburn, Teri Lee, Jai’Lysa Hoskins, Nicole Becker, Kristin Sim, Amanda Streubel and captains Courtney Arnold and Tyler Potts.
