Swim: Oak Harbor grabs 2nd at district, sends 5 to state; Coupeville's Weinstein earns state trip

The Oak Harbor High School swim team tied for second in the 3A district meet at Anacortes last weekend and, in the process, qualified five individuals for the state meet.

Coupeville's Rachel Weinstein, swimming in the 2A portion of the meet, qualified for state in the 200 (third, 2:06.8) and 500 (second, 5:41.73) freestyle races.

Wildcats Ciara Hu (200 individual medley; 100 butterfly), Akasha Trisler (200 IM; 100 breaststroke), Karina Concepcion (100 backstroke), Therese Desquitado (100 backstroke) and Tori Nickerson (100 breaststroke) qualified for the state meet by either placing in the top three at district or meeting a state qualifying mark.

Concepcion, Hu, Trisler and Nickerson also have qualified in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Hu qualified by time earlier this year in the 100 and 500 free, and Trisler in the 100 backstroke.

All but Desquitado competed at state last fall.

Shorewood (302 points) won the district team title and Oak Harbor (222) tied for second in the 11-team meet with Glacier Peak.

The state meet runs Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 11 to 13, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
