Oak Harbor High School senior Adrianna Royal was named recently as a state finalist for the Wendy's Heisman Award.

Each school nominates a boy and girl for the award. The list in narrowed to 10 state finalists in October and then a state winner is announced in early November. Twelve national finalists are chosen from that group, and national winners, a boy and a girl, are announced in December.

Royal, who competes in cross country, basketball and track for the Wildcats, is a Washington finalist.

Robert Beadles was Oak Harbor's male nominee.

The Wendy's High School Heisman was created by the restaurant chain in 1994 to honor high school student-athletes for their excellence in academics, athletics and community involvement.
