Second-place Everett shut down the Oak Harbor girls soccer team 5-0 in the final regular season match at Everett Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Everett (10-4, 11-4-1) scored two goals off set pieces and two from long-range, according to Oak Harbor coach Jeff Laiblin.

Laiblin gave his underclassmen significant playing time, taking a look at the players who will make up next year's team.

He said his team "played a strong game, but Everett was in championship form."

The "player of the game," Laiblin said, was Ashley Everett who shut out the Seagulls' leading scorer, Makalea Nellams, denying her a goal or assist for the first time this year.

Laiblin saw growth over the past year in his team which recorded two wins and 16 goals, up from a winless, goalless season in 2009.

Eight of this year's losses were by two or less goals and the team was competitive in 11 matches as compared to just three last fall.
