Granite Falls spoiled senior night for the Coupeville girls soccer team by defeating the host Wolves 2-0 Tuesday, Oct. 19.
After a closely contested and scoreless first half, the Tigers (7-5, 8-6) punched in two second-half goals to secure the win.
Coupeville coach Mike Thornton said Granite Falls first scored when the Wolves didn't close down properly. The second goal came late on a tap in when Coupeville missed clearing a corner kick.
Thornton said the Wolves had several scoring chances in the second half but couldn't find the net.
Coupeville got a strong performance from keeper Cassie Babcock, according to Thornton. Babcock stopped a Tiger penalty kick to highlight the Wolves' defensive effort.
Coupeville (2-8, 2-10) plays at Sultan (1-11, 1-13) Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
