Shorecrest squeaked by the Oak Harbor boys tennis team 4-3 Thursday, Sept. 30, on the OHHS courts.

With the score tied 3-3, the match came down to the No. 1 singles battle, the last contest to be completed. The Highlanders’ David Lyons came from behind to defeat Ben Cardinal 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 to secure the match for Shorecrest (4-7, 5-8).

Oak Harbor earned wins in the other singles matches from Josh Evans (6-0, 6-4), Brandon Vagt (6-4, 6-4) and David DeGuzman (6-4, 6-4).

Shorecrest took all three doubles matches over Oak Harbor’s Max O’Dell/Geoff Worley (6-1, 6-0), Will Southard/Michael Serna (6-3, 6-4) and Ben Harrison/Maric Sobreo (7-6, 6-2).

Shorecrest defeated Oak Harbor 6-1 when the two teams met earlier this fall.

Oak Harbor (2-7, 2-8) hosts Shorewood (7-2, 7-3) Monday, Oct. 4, at 3:45 p.m.
