After finishing third in pool play, the Coupeville High School volleyball team swept both matches in bracket play to finish ninth in the 16-team South Whidbey Tournament Saturday, Sept. 25.
The Wolves played two games against each of their three pool partners and fell in the opening round to Meadowdale 25-17, 25-21.
Coupeville split games in its other pool matches against Omak (19-25, 25-8) and Lakeside (25-22, 15-25).
That placed Coupeville third in its pool and into single-elimination bracket play with the third place finishers from the three other four-team pools.
The Wolves first defeated South Whidbey 25-17, 25-22, storming from behind to capture the second set. The win helped avenge a Cascade Conference loss to the Falcons earlier in the week.
The Wolves then whipped Hoquiam 25-19, 25-17 to win its bracket.
Coach Toni Crebbin said, "I was very pleased with how we played, as we were fairly consistent all day long and are hopefully taking some momentum into next week."
Crebbin said the only statistic they kept during the tournament was serving and Jessica Riddle led the way by hitting 44 of 46 for 13 aces.
Sultan comes to Coupeville Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. as the Wolves resume league play.
