A 2-1 win over Mount Vernon Christian Thursday, Sept. 9, gave the Coupeville High School girls soccer team its second straight victory to start the 2010 season.

Coach Mike Thornton said it "wasn't as nice a game" as the Wolves' 6-0 win over Concrete Tuesday, but a mark in the W column nonetheless.

Casey Andrews, with an assist from Kelsey Miranda, put the Wolves on top 14 minutes into the match.

The goal held up until the 55th minute when the Hurricanes scored when a ball deflected off a Coupeville defender.

Amanda Montana, assisted by Amanda d'Almeida, booted the game winner in the 70th minute.

Thornton said the ragged play might be a result of "trying some players at new spots and trying to rest a couple of players."

The Wolves (2-0) host defending 2A state champion Archbishop Murphy (1-0) Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m.
