10 hits produce only 1 run in Wildcat loss / Baseball

Although the Oak Harbor High School baseball team had a good day at the plate Friday, March 23, against visiting Marysville-Pilchuck, the Wildcats had little to show for it.

Despite swatting 10 hits, the Wildcats scored only one run in an 8-1 loss to the Tomahawks.

That one run came on a solo home run by Aiden McCarthy in the fifth inning. Oak Harbor left 13 runners stranded as the nine other hits produced zilch.

The Wildcats put the ball in play, striking out only once against M-P’s Joe McCoy, but couldn’t bunch their hits to keep up with the Tomahawks. Marysville-Pilchuck steadily pulled away, scoring once in the second; twice in the third, fifth and sixth; and again in the seventh.

Oak Harbor, which has scored exactly one run in each of its five games this season, dropped to 0-4 in conference play and 0-5 overall. Marysville-Pilchuck (2-0, 4-0) is unbeaten.

Caleb Fitzgerald recorded three hits for Oak Harbor, and Donnie Kloewer added two. Aaron Martinez, Thomas Anderson, James Besaw and Chase Ogden all singled.

Jack Lovendale took the pitching loss.

Oak Harbor goes to Meadowdale (2-1) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 27.
