Permanent tax hike unnecessary
July 16, 2010 · Updated 2:09 PM
This tax lid lift starts out at $40 then the next year it’s $80 and the year after $180. Island County ranks 12th in tax collections, population ranking is 14th highest and tax per capita rank is nine. We don’t need more tax increases. We need a frugal and wise government.
Island County government added mandatory septic inspections and kept land conservation fees. John Dean, Angie Homola, and Helen Price Johnson hiked three levies back in December 2009. They are implementing a Clean Water Utility District which translates to more taxation. They spent tax dollars on stupid things like radar speed signs along West Beach Road. The commissioners burned through a whopping 4.5 million tax dollars in reserve funds in 18 months.
Do you think that our elected officials are smart enough to make tax reductions in some areas to compensate for increases in other areas? No!
Voters need to be angry! We do not need a permanent tax increase to solve a temporary problem.
Don’t forget the hospital board is seeking more tax money too.
