Why I’m a fan of firefighters

On Christmas Day 1961, volunteer firefighters responded to a chimney fire at our house (wrapping paper plus dirty chimney). I became a big fan of the fire department on that day, and over the years have had drills with my children and maintain multiple fire and carbon monoxide detectors at my house and my mother’s.

One recent Saturday, the sheriff and firefighters from many departments responded to the family home, but I was unaware my brother had picked mom up for a grandson’s recital. The firefighters entered the burning house through an upstairs bedroom to effect a rescue IF (think about it) someone was in the house. I can’t thank you all enough.
