On June 4 and 5 the community came together for the 2010 Relay For Life. The rain stopped, the sun came out and an eagle soared above us during the 20-plus hours we took over the grounds at the North Whidbey Middle School.

It is impossible to name everyone that made this event a success so I would like to send out a big “thank you!” to the whole North Whidbey community for a job well done.

However, I must thank all cancer survivors and caregivers who attended, our sponsors who gave generously of services or money, the thousand of participants who raised money, team captains who have worked since September to establish the 118 teams and the Relay planning committee who put in untold hours to make this event possible.

As you read these words today someone in our community has just heard the words: “You have cancer.” This weekend you have raised $188,942.30 toward a cure.
