Island County should set the snowy road policy based on the road conditions, not the time that Island County Public Works supervisor takes a peek out of his bedroom window. There may not be the traffic flow of an I-5 or 405 on the island, but the county should have the responsibility of maintaining the major roads regardless of the time of the day.

Many folks do not have the same 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule as the people who work at the county seat. Weekend and holiday operations should be no different than Monday through Friday. Getting out ahead of whatever has fallen or is expected to fall will make the end job easier, versus waiting till the sun has risen.
