Oct. 18 through 24 is national Friends of the Library week, and an opportunity for us to thank our Friends for all they do.

The Friends of the Oak Harbor Library volunteer and raise money to support library programs all year long. This year they provided more than $5,000 for quality entertainment, educational materials, outreach and incentives for summer reading, helping kids and teens maintain their skills and achieve success in school. They also help our library stay fresh and interesting, providing new furnishings in both the preschool and teen areas.

The Friends provide free programs for adults at their third Thursday meeting each month. All programs are open to the public; joining the Friends of the Library costs just $5 per year. Communities need libraries, and libraries need friends, now more than ever. Thank you, Friends of the Library.
