Park and ride too costly
October 6, 2009 · 2:01 PM
I figured by now someone would have written about the new park and ride that the cash-strapped Island transit is building in Coupeville. Must be some kind of a park and ride to cost $350,000.
I cannot believe that after crying and moaning about not having enough money to operate, Ms. Rose would go ahead with a project like this. I know the standard answer will be repeated that this was already planned but was anything done to lower costs or wait another year or two to build this facility? I as a consumer earmark money for something but if a financial crisis arises I put that project off and tend to the here and now. As should Island Transit -- that money could have and should have been put to better use.
Now that Frontier Chevy has been closed I wonder how long it will be before we again hear the cry, “Save Our Transit, we need more sales tax revenue.” Hogwash. I voted against the last levy and will do so in the future. You want to ride the bus, then pay for it. I did for years growing up in Chicago and no, I am not a “newbie” to the island. I’ve been here for 35 years and frankly I’m tired of giving people a free ride and fully believe this is a waste of citizens’ money.
