Transit needs new managers
August 4, 2009 · 4:13 PM
I plan to vote no on the tax increase for Island Transit. My vote reflects loss of confidence in transit administrators rather than lack of concern for good transit.
Transit administrators have voted no on every option to augment funding other than a tax increase: No on ads that "would be so ugly," no on cuts in employee benefits, no on selling (rather than giving away) surplus vehicles, and no on charging a fee for their service. Their creative thinking seems to be limited to "let the taxpayers dig a little deeper."
Island Transit is a big business and deserves good management. I will not support their proposals until I am convinced that they have improved their management skills -- most likely by installing new managers.
