Bush backers welcome at war protests
April 15, 2009 · 7:54 AM
Mr. Smith's recent letter to the editor hit the mark: peace should not be a partisan issue.
Though Obama promised a change in policy, much seems to be business as usual. In fact, the war in Afghanistan has even been escalated. It is becoming painfully obvious that constant pressure must be applied to effect any real change, and Obama supporters have no time to breathe a sigh of relief that the long reign of Bush has ended.
An uninterrupted corner vigil is an enormous commitment, but it is gratifying that its presence is missed. Perhaps now that supporters of Bush are no longer bound by party loyalty to support presidential policy, they will feel free to protest the wars and join others at the corner, maintaining the tradition of peaceful dissent.
