Animal kennel on the prairie

The Whidbey News-Times Oct. 22 notice of Whidbey Animals' Improvement Foundation application to build 18,274 square feet of structures, including "shelter building, kennels, and auxiliary buildings," on 8.96 acres in Ebey's Historic Reserve caught my eye. Particularly in relation to having just read the letter to the editor about Helen Price Johnson, candidate for County Commissioner, District 1.

Ms. Johnson was described as protecting "our island from those who would plant big boxes, build huge, pave over, and fill in." I may be mistaken, but wasn't she one of those who severely criticized Island County for not rescinding the permit - mistakenly - given to the compliant private property owner for a 5,000 square foot home in the Ebey's Historic Reserve?

I look forward to what comes next.
