We wanted to write and thank your reporter Liz Burlingame, the Marines of MATSG-53, NAS Whidbey, the Gold Star Mothers of Washington, the Oak Harbor VFW, the Washington Marine Corps Leagues and all the sponsors for their support and participation in the Aug. 23 running of the Major Megan McClung Memorial Run.

Liz Burlingame created a well-written article about the run and did an excellent job of reporting the facts and researching the background of why this run is being held. The Marines of MATSG-53 and the NAS Whidbey personnel were excellent (as is usual) in their organization and execution of the run. The Gold Star Mothers were, as Liz noted, a great surprise to us and we welcomed the chance to get to know them better. Our fellow veteran Marines, both local and from across the state came out to honor our daughter. We are greatly appreciative of all of the volunteers and sponsors who gave of themselves and their companies to ensure that this run was a success.

The real winners in this are the wounded Marines and corpsmen who will benefit from the proceeds being donated to the Marine Corps League’s “Marines Helping Marines” program.
