Can relate to Living article about Newfies

Editor,

I just read Saturday’s Island Living article, “Instant Bond.” I have had two Newfies and both were exactly as Ms. Becker describes hers. They are described as gentle giants, and that is the truth.

Both of my boys lived to be about 15 in age, which is extremely old for these dogs. Juice was given to us when he was about two and Woody was adopted from WAIF when he was 10.

Juice lived with family in Georgia while we were stationed overseas. They had a swimming pool in their yard. The kids could not swim with Juice in the yard. They would jump in and he would be right behind them, dragging them out to safety. Repeatedly.

I wish them all the luck and love in the world.

And I hope they have a good vacuum for the billowy clouds of black and brown hair.
