I doubt if everyone knows that the city of Oak Harbor has a police department Community Advisory Board (CAB). This board is comprised of nine people that live or work in Oak Harbor. One of the members is a high school student. The board was established by the mayor and city council in 1991, with the goal of establishing a close relationship between the police department and the community. Some of the functions of the CAB:
1. Promote public awareness of and seek public input regarding city police services and programs.
2. Appraise and make recommendations to the mayor, city council and police chief concerning police protection and service to the community.
3. Review and make recommendations regarding any matters referred to the board by the mayor, city council or police chief.
The CAB meets the second Tuesday (July 11) of each odd-numbered month at 4:15 p.m. in the police department training room. The meeting is open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend. This is your chance to bring up any subject matters pertaining to the Oak Harbor Police Department. There is a 24-hour recorded message phone line for CAB. The number is 675-1572. I can be contacted at 675-0948.
This is a chance for the public to make recommendations or ask questions about functions of the OHPD.
