I attended the recent Friday night Oak Harbor vs. Arlington High School football game at the current Memorial Stadium. As I waited in line to get a ticket, I overheard students from Arlington asking each other “where is everyone going to sit - it is already full and a lot more are coming.” The stands did become full on both sides and at one point students were sitting in the aisles as there was no room in the seats.

Even though it was crowded, I was struck by how respectful the students were when they crossed in front of someone or asked if seats were taken. However, I did wonder about the safety of the crowdedness and also noticed how many of the community had no place to sit as they stood along the fence line watching the game.

When we left, I heard several from Arlington say, “I sure hope they get their new stadium – they really need it.” I am hopeful that everyone will vote yes for the community complex (Memorial Stadium) on Nov. 8. A yes vote is going to provide us all with a great place to interact and share good times and memories.
