The Whidbey News-Times every once in a while surprises me with unique subject matter in which to employ its journalistic talents. The front page article about stealing city water, which ran April 20, was one such journalistic gem.

You gave Mr. Stettler a public soapbox to portray stupidity as a virtue, while at the same time committing a crime. I must admit the lengthy article was enough for me to be convinced of his stupidity, but you also got him to pose for a picture with his accomplice, the water faucet. You can not cap a story better than that.

Keeping in mind, in spite of Mr. Stettler’s public disclosure, along with a  posed picture and the help of a talented staff reporter, we must not forget a stupid thief is still a thief, in this case an unrepentant thief.

Just food for thought, less we forget.
